QUALITY OF LIFE FACTS RESIDENTS SHOULD KNOW

A Resident sent the following email to the "Lloyd Harbor Cares" website. It was immediately deleted. Just a little taste of what the "Lloyd Harbor Cares" group considers "open" government, "listening" to residents and "welcoming" your thoughts.....

Subject: "Lloyd Harbor Cares" ...... Do they?

Here is my response posted on the "Lloyd Harbor Cares" website (& immediately deleted !)

"I read your letter. I found it (the allegations) to be rather disturbing. You state that your (Lloyd Harbor Cares group) claims are "firmly founded on the written public record." A few facts:

• Road Conditions: - our unpaid Mayor worked his butt off securing a federal grant to repair those roads.
• Secret Deer Culling: I originally spoke out against this, the Mayor heard me and others. Now this needed program is done during specified times in the fall, in a manner that is safe and effective.
• "Mismanagement" of Police Dept: Anyone in Lloyd Harbor who reads knows that this is a trumped up vendetta by an unhappy ex-Village official.
• Shutdown of recycling center: The TRUTH--wouldn't that be refreshing-- is that one Village resident reported the Village to the DEP for not having a full-time employee manning this center. What would you guys be saying IF the Mayor hired a full-time employee to sit by our little recycling shack???
• Village Record: You don't like the content? Write an article and submit it. But be careful. If the article is as full of misrepresentations and outright falsehoods as this thing you mailed around, you will get justifiably hammered. (You say) "you are afraid to voice your opinion because you are subject to arbitrary enforcement of Village laws." Do you have any foundation in fact to justify the assertion that the Village Board will direct the police or other Village personnel to unfairly or unjustly use their power to suppress someone? Have you ever been to a Board Meeting and listened while the Board sat patiently while certain Village residents disrupted the order of the meeting with their bizarre issues? Pu-leeese!!!

Frankly, I am pleased that anyone would want to spend the thousands of hours, endure the harassment and vandalism, and perform the thankless work that is involved with being on the Village Board. But that sentiment is countered by the realization that whoever wrote this has little appreciation for a factual or fair presentation of the issues. I wouldn't trust MY Village to these people."
